ational High Performance Computing Center (NHR@FAU) in collaboration with
NHR@KIT.\nCourse Description\nGit has become the universal standard for tr
acking code changes\, and mastering it enables developers to confidently e
xperiment\, recover mistakes\, trace the origin of bugs\, and collaborate
without overwriting each other's work. This course explains how Git works
on a more fundamental level than our introductory course: how Git history
is structured\, how to take advantage of it in practice\, and how to organ
ize it well. Git offers many features that entry level users may not know
or are hard to get a grasp of. Therefore this course is not just about the
'how'\, but also about the 'why'\, and how to find the right balance of e
ffort when doing version control with Git.\nWhile the course will cover ce
rtain fundamentals of Git\, it will do so with more attention for detail.
Thus participants should already have some familiarity with the basic Git
workflow. Usage of the command line is mandatory for this course.\nPrerequ
isites\nKnowledge\n\nFamiliarity with the Linux command line and basic Git
command line usage\nFamiliarity with any text editor\n\nTechnical\n\nAn a
ccount on www.github.com.\nA local installation of Git\n\nCourse Structure
 \n\nGit history recap and investigation (show\, blame\, bisect)\nEditing h
 istory\, and correcting errors (rebase\, amend commit\, revert)\nRestoring
deleted commits and branches (reflog)\nDealing with conflicts\nStaging ar
ea (index)\nWorking with multiple remotes\nBest practices and balancing ef
fort spent on version control\n\nLearning Outcomes\nAfter completing this
course\, you will be able to:\n\nExplain why good bookkeeping matters\nCor
rect mistakes and edit and already existing history\nRestore accidentally
deleted branches and commits\nHow to partially commit changes\nWorking wit
h multiple remotes and how to copy repositories\nHow to balance the effort
