Hausladen\, NHR@FAU\n\nThis course is organized by Erlangen National High
Performance Computing Center (NHR@FAU) in collaboration with NHR@KIT.\nCo
urse Description\nVersion control is an indispensable skill for anyone wri
ting software today\, whether working alone on a research script or collab
orating with a team on a large codebase. Git has become the universal stan
dard for tracking code changes\, and mastering it enables developers to co
nfidently experiment\, recover mistakes\, trace the origin of bugs\, and c
ollaborate without overwriting each other's work. This course introduces G
it from first principles: how the repository model works\, how commits and
branches are structured\, and how to interact with remote repositories on
platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.\nParticipants use Git from the comman
 d line\, working through entry-level solo and collaborative scenarios.\nPr
erequisites\nKnowledge\n\nFamiliarity with the Linux command line (navigat
ing directories\, editing files\, running commands)\nFamiliarity with any
text editor such as vim or an IDE such as Visual Studio Code\n\nTechnical\
n\nAn account on www.github.com.\nA local installation of Git\n\nCourse St
ructure\n\nVersion control concepts: why Git\, the repository model\, and
 key terminology\nWorking with repositories: init\, clone\, staging\, commi
tting\, and inspecting history\nBranching and merging: creating branches\,
  merging strategies\, and conflict resolution\nRemote repositories: push\,
pull\, fetch\, and working with GitHub or GitLab\nPractical workflows: so
lo development\, collaborative development\, and common recovery scenarios
\n\nLearning Outcomes\nAfter completing this course\, you will be able to:
\n\nExplain the core concepts of version control and the Git repository mo
 del (working tree\, staging area\, commits\, branches)\nCreate and clone r
epositories and manage their configuration\nCommit changes\, browse histor
y\, and navigate between versions\nCreate\, merge\, and delete branches fo
r feature development and experimentation\nSynchronize work with remote re
positories by pushing\, pulling\, and fetching\nResolve merge conflicts an
d recover from common mistakes\nUse Git from the command line\n\nRegistrat
ion\, Wait List and Withdrawal Policy\nRegistration\nPlease register at th
e bottom of this page. Registration is open until a few days before the co
urse starts\, or until the course is fully booked.\nPrices and Eligibility

academic institutions in European Union (EU) member states and Horizon 202
0-associated countries.\nWait List\nIf the course reaches its maximum capa
city\, you can request to join the wait list by sending an email to nhr-tr
aining@fau.de. Please include your name and university affiliation in the
message.\nWithdrawal Policy\nPlease only register if you are committed to
attending the course. No-shows will be blacklisted and excluded from futur
e events.\nIf you need to withdraw your registration\, please either cance
l it directly through the registration system or send an email to nhr-trai
ning@fau.de.\nAdditional Courses\nYou can find an up-to-date list of all c
